Off-Leash Hikes & Reliable Recall
Our off-leash trail outings are designed for social-dogs with a reliable recall.
To participate, each dog must meet the following requirements:
Assessment or Training Reference: Dogs must complete an assessment with Dharma Canine Collective or provide a reference from their current dog trainer, daycare, or other qualified canine professional confirming that the dog is appropriate for off-leash group activities, through recall, human, and dog interactions
Vaccinations: Dogs must be current on rabies vaccination as required under Nevada law and Kennel Cough every 6 months (Lepto is recommended) and must provide current vaccination records.
Reliable Recall: Dogs must demonstrate an appropriate level of recall and responsiveness to their handler before participating off leash.
E-Collar Conditioning: Dogs must be appropriately conditioned to an e-collar before participating in off-leash trail activities. Conditioning must be completed through proper training and the dog must understand how to respond to the e-collar's cues before participating.
Behavior & Social Compatibility: Dogs must be able to safely interact around people and other dogs and must not display behaviors that would create an unreasonable safety risk during a group outing or traveling to a hike.
Why E-Collar Conditioning Is Required
For appropriate dogs, an e-collar can be a useful communication tool during off-leash activities and training sessions. When properly conditioned and used correctly, it can provide the handler with an additional way to communicate with the dog at a distance, particularly when environmental distractions make verbal cues less effective.
Our goal is not simply to have a dog respond to an e-collar, but to build a reliable recall and strong communication system that helps keep dogs safe while enjoying greater freedom on the trail.
Safety comes first. Participation is subject to Dharma Canine Collective's assessment and approval. Meeting the minimum requirements does not automatically guarantee acceptance into every outing; dog’s are carefully matched with appropriate trail companions. Just like humans they have their own preferences too and matching energy, temperament, and play styles ensure everyone has a fun and safe experience!

Dharma Canine Collective offers individualized recall training, off-leash reliability training, and ethical e-collar conditioning to help dogs and their handlers build the skills needed for safe, enjoyable off-leash adventures and training.
An e-collar is a tool—not a shortcut.
Proper e-collar training should focus on conditioning, communication, clear expectations, reinforcement, and developing a reliable recall. The goal is to give the dog and handler another means of communicating safely at a distance, not to rely on punishment or pain.
